COURTNEY’S ANGEL SIBLING PAK

Siblings of pediatric cancer patients can often feel left out. Thanks to a grant received from Angel Charity, Courtney’s Courage helps by providing a Courtney’s Angel Pak for the siblings along with the Pack for the cancer patient. The sibling packs also include items specific to each child such as toys, books, and munchies.

MOM’S DINNER

Mom’s give all of themselves to support their child with cancer.  To give them a small break we provide these wonderful ladies dinner and an opportunity to share their victories, challenges and offer support for each other, knowing that another mom can truly understand their journey.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it changes the lives of the child and their family.  All too frequently, a parent must leave their job to care for the child with cancer causing a financial burden for the family.  Courtney's Courage Family Support Services program provides financial assistance with mortgage payments, rent, utilities, cell phone bills, Banner Medical Center meal and cafeteria cards, gas, and groceries. Banner Medical Center averages 65 new diagnosis of pediatric cancer each year in addition to the many pediatric patients that relapse from remission. Courtney's Courage Family Support Services program helps 80 to 100 families per year.

In 2022, Courtney’s Courage provided financial assistance to families of over $6,000 in gas and food gift cards and paid out almost $8,000 toward utilities. Courtney’s Courage also assisted families with over $5,500 in rent and automobile expenses.

TEEN & YOUNG ADULT SUPPORT GROUP

Teens and young adult cancer patients who are currently in active treatment, maintenance treatment, or recently completed treatment have their own set of issues to deal with beyond fighting cancer. They may feel judged or not understood by those their age who don't know exactly what they are going through. The Courtney's Courage Teen and Young Adult Support Group offers these cancer patients a monthly support group meeting where they feel open to share everything about their life with complete strangers because they know what each other is going through.

ESSENTIALS FOR FAMILIES

Courtney’s Courage and Candlelighters of Southern Arizona are partnering with United Way “Days of Caring”.  On Saturday October 21, 2023, we will provide essential times to 40 families of children with cancer.  Providing these items helps that families to continue to focus on their child with cancer.  Thank you to all that have donated.

SOUTHWEST HOPE AND HEALING RETREAT

The Southwest Hope and Healing Bereavement Retreat, co-sponsored by Bald Beauties, Arms Wide Open and Courtney’s Courage, is for newly bereaved families who have lost a child (21 years and younger) to pediatric cancer to support one another.  Unfortunately, the death of a child is part of the cancer journey for some families.  Attendees of the retreat primarily include low-income families that have no other means of getting the emotional support necessary to heal after the loss of a child.  The goal of the retreat is for families to come together in support of one another with a focus both on support and working through their grief.  The retreat will include professional facilitators who hold separate sessions for the parents, teens and young children.  Also included are activities such as water wars, a tomahawk throw, horseback rides, s'mores by the lake and other fun activities throughout the weekend.  The retreat is held at the beautiful and peaceful Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. The weekend accommodations and activities will be provided at no cost to families.
